Traveling Easier And Cheaper With Lightweight Suitcases

With the airlines charging for checked luggage now, traveling can begin to nickel and dime a person. With the average charge for one checked bag being $25 for one way and two checked bags up to $60, it is time to travel lighter. The weight limit on that first bag is only 50 pounds and if you have an old heavy suitcase, that can use nearly half your weight limit. A large suitcase approximately 30 inches by 19 inches by 12 inches is considered lightweight if it weighs less than one and a half pounds when empty. Many people are buying new carry-on size lightweight suitcases, therefore avoiding the baggage fees altogether, but often they even have weight limits. Even with the larger checked pieces, the lightweight versions definitely have their advantages. More items can be packed in one bag for the same weight allotment where before you had to divide the items into two bags.

These lightweight suitcases are sold in both soft side and hard side versions. The best material to look for in hard side luggage is one that is molded from an ABS coated polycarbonate. This is the lightest of the materials but is still tough and flexible so it will be able to take the abuse given to it by the baggage handlers. The soft sided cases made out of synthetic fibers like polyester or nylon are just as tough, but slightly less resistant to crushing if under a lot of other bags. There are some that are in between the soft and hard sided versions that have EVA for additional firmness. Obviously, the cheaper versions may not last as long as the more expensive models, but it you only travel once or twice a year, you may not want to dish out a lot of money at this point and they should still last for many years.

Not only will the lightweight luggage save you money on airline baggage, but they are much easier to handle and there you are less likely to injure your back when lifting them. When you think of it as saving $35 on an extra bag for each flight, it does not take many flights to pay off that great new set of lightweight suitcases you are going to want to get. Four Or Six Man Tents

I’m sure that not all of us are fond of traveling. But we are all bound to go somewhere at one point in our lives. Being a senior citizen should not stop us from fulfilling our dream to see the world. In fact, traveling is suited for those who are in their 60’s and 70’s. Why?
