But more and more these days, key lanyards are now becoming popular to students and teenagers. Functionality may be the first and foremost use of a lanyard for some but for teenagers, it is more for fashion. It is a common sight these days that a lanyard’s wide strap is seen dangling outside a teenager’s pocket and the keys are securely inside. It still functions as a key lanyard for them, but it is used mainly because it is trendy.

There can be numerous possible reasons why lanyards are so popular with the younger generations these days. It is actually very strange perhaps that their fashion accessory is taken from the maintenance man. But looking more into it, it may be because lanyards became also popular advertising materials these days. Many companies, sport’s team and even worthy causes print their logos, names and even slogans in the strap of a lanyard. Even bands and popular games have used lanyards for their ads.
